Snoozing, beauty rest, hitting the hay, however you describe sleep, most of us spend a third of our lives doing this activity that you really learn to appreciate as you get older. I'm sure we've all held eight hours as the standard for a good night's rest. But, is that really the case? Let's find out.
The National Sleep Foundation let a two-year study supported by panelists from some of the world's top medical organizations. While the recommended eight hours certainly wasn't disproved, the study did find that the amount of sleep needed isn't necessarily a one size fits all. Before you even dive into how many hours of sleep are ideal for you. There are a lot of other factors to consider. Are you struggling with illness, weight gain, dependence on caffeine? Pay close attention to how you feel with the amount of sleep that you're currently getting and then you can die and more to what range really works for you. The studies' conclusion? Seven to nine hours as expected. But more importantly, you should know how your body operates, how your sleep affects you, and what happens affects your sleep.
